Domains
Connect a domain
Prepare inboxes, connect DNS, turn on receiving and test both directions.
MailMoose registers domains with its configured email providers and checks verification for you. Customers do not need their own Postmark or AWS console. Service-level provider approval and restrictions still apply.
New sending connections use Postmark. Domains already connected to Resend stay on Resend for setup, verification, outgoing mail and forwarding. Changing the global MAIL_SENDER setting does not migrate them, and a provider failure never silently sends through the other provider. Operators must keep the existing Resend SMTP credentials alongside Postmark credentials while both are in use.
Before you start
- You own the domain and can edit its authoritative DNS, which may differ from the registrar.
- You are an owner or admin of the workspace. The free plan includes one domain; the paid plan includes unlimited domains.
- Another MailMoose organization has not already claimed the domain.
Guided setup
- Open Domains → Add domain. Enter the domain and optional business label. Guided setup opens automatically after the domain is added.
- Create an inbox. Say whether you already use the domain for email. For a new setup, edit the suggested
helloaddress and choose Create inbox & continue. If you’re moving email, prepare every address you need first, using Add another inbox, then continue. Available inbox capacity is shown beside a plan help icon. - Connect your domain. Use supported one-click setup or add DNS records manually, one at a time. Next record moves through the instructions; Show all records opens a collapsed overview. Copying is not verification. This step does not change incoming-mail MX.
- Turn on receiving. Once connection is verified, update the incoming-mail MX record. If moving existing email, review the visible warning, save your old MX records and check that every address you need exists first.
- Sending. Choose a sender and another inbox you control. Review and send the test, then reply from that inbox. You can open Sending at any time to review it; sending still requires a verified sender and receiving must be ready for replies. Setup is complete only after a matching reply arrives, with no reported delivery failure.
One setup card shows your current step and checkmarks for completed work. Progress reflects created inboxes, verified connections and a successful two-way test, not clicks or elapsed time. Automatic DNS checks update the current step without moving you unexpectedly; choose Continue when it is ready.
Revisit previous steps with Back or the step buttons. You can leave through the app navigation and return: prepared inboxes and verified DNS resume from saved data. The book icon at the top opens this setup guide; the help icon beside the DNS heading explains record names. Where browser storage is available, the new/moving-email answer is remembered on that browser; it is guidance, not a DNS change. Domain settings, names and deletion remain in the Domains overview, outside the setup journey.
From the Domains overview, the wand icon (Continue guided setup) takes you straight back to the saved journey. It is shown while sending or receiving is unverified, or no inbox has been created. After those are ready it disappears; you can still open guided setup from the domain’s settings to run the email test.
Nothing sends automatically. A successful send means provider acceptance, not guaranteed inbox delivery.
Automatic checks
Visible DNS setup checks about every 30 seconds; provider verification requests are throttled. Checks pause after 10 minutes. The test step checks for a matching reply about every 15 seconds while visible, with a manual check too.
DNS caches and provider verification take time. Closing the tab stops page polling; reopen guided setup to continue.
Copied means a value reached your clipboard, Waiting for DNS means the records are not yet confirmed, and Verified means the DNS check found the expected value. Choose Check DNS now to refresh the badges on each record and in Show all records. Not found yet can mean DNS is still propagating; Needs update identifies an existing value that needs changing. A failed check shows an error without pretending to know a record’s status. Your email provider may need additional time after the records appear. If a check fails, your existing setup progress is kept and you can retry.
DNS shortcuts
One-click setup appears only for supported hosts and templates when configured. Sign in at the DNS host and approve changes. Guided domain connection uses the template without incoming-mail MX; receiving is a separate step. Manual copy controls remain available.
External agents can fetch setup instructions. Editing DNS requires separate DNS-host authorization, such as an already-authorized provider CLI. Without it, the agent can guide you but cannot change records.
Troubleshooting
- Already connected: check your organizations. One claim per domain is an app ownership rule, not a rule limiting DNS to one MX record.
- Records not found: check doubled domain suffixes and the authoritative DNS host.
- Receiving ready, sending not ready: complete the separate sending checklist.
- Free plan already has its domain: the owner can upgrade in Billing for unlimited domains.
